2001-02 NBA Season Standings

The Lakers completed a three-peat, sweeping the New Jersey Nets 4-0 in the Finals. New Jersey (Atlantic, 52-30) and Detroit (Central, 50-32) took the East's guaranteed division-winner top-2 seeds. In the West, Sacramento (Pacific, 61-21) had the NBA's best record and took the 1 seed, while San Antonio (Midwest, 58-24) claimed the 2 seed as division winner ahead of the Lakers (58-24), who were bumped to 3 despite an identical record — setting up the celebrated, controversial Kings-Lakers conference finals with Sacramento holding home-court advantage. This was the first season for the Memphis Grizzlies after relocating from Vancouver.
