Allianz Stadium

Sydney (Moore Park), New South Wales, Australia

Allianz Stadium, Sydney (Moore Park), Australia — opened 1988, 79 rugby league games hosted, home of Sydney Roosters and South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Sourcing caveat: Since the 2022 rebuild, neither an NRL Grand Final nor a State of Origin match has been played at the new stadium — both remain fixed at Accor Stadium, Sydney. The exact date of the new stadium's first NRL fixture was not identified in sources found.

Rugby league history

Built on the site of the old Sydney Sports Ground and opened in 1988, the stadium became the Sydney Roosters' home after their move from the Sports Ground, and has also hosted South Sydney's home games. The original stadium was demolished between March and December 2019 amid political controversy over the rebuild's cost, and a new stadium was constructed on the same footprint, opening on 28 August 2022 at a total project cost of around $828 million. Beyond the Roosters and Rabbitohs, it is also the home ground of Super Rugby's NSW Waratahs and A-League club Sydney FC. The original stadium hosted the NSWRL/ARL/NRL Grand Final every year from 1988 to 1998, and was also NSW's home venue for State of Origin matches across the same period, before both fixtures moved elsewhere. Its record rugby league crowd, 44,380, came in a 2018 NRL Finals Series clash between the Roosters and Rabbitohs — the venue's last major finals match before demolition.

Rugby union (Waratahs, Wallabies Tests) and A-League football (Sydney FC) are both regular tenants alongside the two NRL clubs.
