Match report
This elimination semi-final saw Manly, fresh off a tight 4-0 loss to the Sydney Roosters the previous week, enter as slight favourites despite being considered physically depleted from that contest. Cronulla, who had upset North Queensland in their own qualifying final, went into the match without playmaker Todd Carney, ruled out with a hamstring injury, forcing Chad Townsend into the five-eighth role. Manly built control through tries to Daly Cherry-Evans, Kieran Foran, Jorge Taufua and Anthony Watmough, with Jamie Lyon adding four goals off the boot — Taufua's try proved contentious, drawing a pointed reaction from Sharks coach Shane Flanagan afterwards. Cronulla fought back through tries to Andrew Fifita, Michael Gordon and Jonathan Wright, with Gordon converting all three, but it was not enough. The win sent Manly through to the preliminary final, while Cronulla's campaign ended for the second consecutive year at the semi-final stage.
