Harry Sunderland Trophy

Danny McGuire. Won the Harry Sunderland Trophy, Super League's Grand Final Man of the Match honour at the time, in his farewell Leeds appearance before moving to Hull Kingston Rovers.

Match context

Leeds Rhinos beat League Leaders' Shield winners Castleford Tigers 24-6 at a sell-out Old Trafford to win a record 8th Super League title — despite Castleford having beaten Leeds in all four regular-season and Super 8s meetings during 2017, including a 66-10 rout. Tom Briscoe and Danny McGuire scored two tries each in wet conditions, with McGuire also landing two drop goals; 18-year-old Leeds full-back Jack Walker became the youngest-ever Grand Final winner. The match was the farewell Leeds appearance for both McGuire and Rob Burrow, who both retired as champions; Castleford's only points came in the final minute of normal time. Danny McGuire was named Man of the Match and won the Harry Sunderland Trophy.
