Harry Sunderland Trophy
Jake Wardle. Won the Harry Sunderland Trophy, Super League's Grand Final Man of the Match honour at the time — the award was not renamed the Rob Burrow Award until the following year's Grand Final (2024, won by Wigan's Bevan French).
Match context
Wigan Warriors completed a League Leaders' Shield and Grand Final double, beating Catalans Dragons 10-2 at Old Trafford in front of 58,137 fans to win a 6th Super League title (23rd major honour overall). It was a tight, penalty-goal-dominated contest: the only try came from winger Liam Marshall, arriving shortly after Catalans' Tom Davies was sin-binned for a professional foul — on top of an earlier yellow card shown to Adam Keighran, meaning Catalans played a significant stretch with 12 men. Wigan also had a Bevan French try disallowed for a forward pass. Harry Smith kicked three penalty goals for Wigan; Keighran landed one for Catalans before his sin-bin. Jake Wardle was named Man of the Match and won the Harry Sunderland Trophy, the year before the award was renamed in tribute to the late Rob Burrow. The result also confirmed Wakefield Trinity's relegation from Super League after 24 years, decided earlier in the regular season, while London Broncos were promoted in their place after beating Toulouse Olympique in the Championship Grand Final.
