Sourcing caveat: See the finals-series match report for this fixture for a fuller scoring breakdown, including a note on Bradford's single-sourced goal-kicking split. No verified direct post-match coach quotes could be located in the sources checked for this Grand Final. This entry's lineups were corrected in round 41 of the finals-lineups backlog (13be): both `team1_lineup` and `team2_lineup` previously carried a position-order 1-13/14-17 index (flagged unverified since 13al, the last of that section's four originally-flagged years to be checked) rather than real squad numbers — several entries happened to coincide with the real number (e.g. Vagana 8, Lowes 9, Radlinski 1, Newton 9, Cassidy 11), which is part of why the error went unnoticed for so long, but most did not (e.g. Withers was listed as 1, really 5; Naylor as 3, really 20; Mackay as 4, really 23; Pryce as 5, really 3; Hunter-Paul as 7, really 1; McDermott as 10, really 22; Peacock as 12, really 19; Forshaw as 13, really 12; on Wigan's side, Connolly was listed as 3, really 4; Renouf as 4, really 3; Howard as 10, really 20; Furner as 12, really 14). Corrected against this backlog's own independently-sourced `super_league_finals_reports.py` Grand Final entry, which in turn matches the Rugby League Project match page number-for-number for both teams' starting thirteens and benches, and which was itself cross-matched, number-for-number, against each club's own semi-final lineup two weeks earlier for extra confidence.

Harry Sunderland Trophy

Michael Withers (Bradford Bulls). Withers won the Harry Sunderland Trophy after scoring a hat-trick — reported as the first hat-trick in a Super League Grand Final at the time.

Match context

Bradford Bulls beat Wigan Warriors 37-6 at Old Trafford, winning their first Super League Grand Final title. Michael Withers' hat-trick led a dominant Bradford performance; Adrian Lam's 63rd-minute try was Wigan's only score. This was also the final top-level match of Wigan centre Steve Renouf's career. Bradford's home ground that season was Valley Parade, Bradford City AFC's football ground, since Odsal Stadium was under redevelopment. Coaches: Brian Noble (Bradford), Stuart Raper (Wigan).
