Harry Sunderland Trophy

Stefan Ratchford (Warrington Wolves). Won the Harry Sunderland Trophy, Super League's Grand Final Man of the Match honour at the time, despite playing for the losing side — only the 4th player in the award's history to do so.

Match context

Wigan Warriors beat Warrington Wolves 12-4 at Old Trafford in front of 64,892 fans to win their 22nd league championship, in Shaun Wane's final match as Wigan head coach after a 30-year association with the club. Warrington struck first through Josh Charnley, but Wigan replied through Dominic Manfredi and Tom Davies to lead 8-4 at half-time, before Manfredi's second try in the 77th minute sealed it. Every conversion attempt in the match was missed by both kickers, so the entire scoreline came from unconverted tries. Wigan reached the final after finishing 2nd in the Super 8s table despite winning all 7 of their Super 8s matches — a unique feat that still wasn't enough to overtake League Leaders' Shield winners St Helens, who were eliminated by Warrington in the semi-finals.
