Harry Sunderland Trophy
Kevin Naiqama. Won the Harry Sunderland Trophy, Super League's Grand Final Man of the Match honour at the time — three years before the award was renamed the Rob Burrow Award for the 2024 Grand Final.
Match context
St Helens beat Catalans Dragons 12-10 at Old Trafford in front of 45,177 fans to win a third consecutive Super League title, equalling Leeds Rhinos' run of Grand Final wins from 2007-2009. It was Catalans Dragons' first-ever Grand Final appearance, and the first time a non-English club had reached one in the Super League era — earlier that season Catalans had also become the first non-English club to win the League Leaders' Shield. Kevin Naiqama scored twice for St Helens either side of half-time and was named Man of the Match, winning the Harry Sunderland Trophy. Catalans hit back through a Mike McMeeken try, but a Tommy Makinson sin bin for a high tackle on Fouad Yaha reduced St Helens to 12 men without Catalans finding a second score to draw level. James Maloney kicked 3 goals for Catalans; Lachlan Coote kicked 2 for St Helens.
