Harry Sunderland Trophy

Luke Thompson. Won the Harry Sunderland Trophy, Super League's Grand Final Man of the Match honour at the time — the first prop forward to win the award since 1992.

Match context

St Helens beat first-time finalists Salford Red Devils 23-6 at Old Trafford in front of 64,102 fans to complete a League Leaders' Shield and Grand Final double, having already set a club-record points haul during the regular season. Morgan Knowles, Zeb Taia and Mark Percival scored tries for St Helens either side of a Jake Bibby reply for Salford, who were appearing in their first-ever Grand Final after reaching it via the reintroduced "Top-Five" play-off format (last used 1998-2001). Tommy Makinson sealed the win with his first career drop goal in the 78th minute. Luke Thompson was named Man of the Match and won the Harry Sunderland Trophy, becoming the first prop forward to do so since 1992.
