Rob Burrow Award

Mikey Lewis. Won the second-ever Rob Burrow Award, Super League's Grand Final Man of the Match honour, renamed for the 2024 Grand Final (from the Harry Sunderland Trophy) in tribute to the late Leeds Rhinos great. Corrected 17 Aug 2026: this page previously called it the "inaugural" award — the rename actually took effect a year earlier than first recorded here, for the 2024 Grand Final (won by Wigan's Bevan French), not 2025.

Match context

Hull KR ended a title drought stretching back to their last top-flight championship in 1984 by beating two-time defending champions Wigan Warriors 24-6 in front of 68,853 fans — the largest Grand Final crowd since 2017 — at Old Trafford on 11 October 2025. The game turned in the first half when Wigan's Brad O'Neill was sin-binned for a dangerous tackle on Tyrone May; Hull KR punished the extra man immediately, with Mikey Lewis breaking from dummy-half to set up the platform before Joe Burgess crossed soon after to build a 10-0 lead. Wigan's Adam Keighran kept his side within touch with a long-range penalty on the stroke of half-time to make it 10-2. Wigan rallied briefly through Harry Smith's try early in the second half, but Hull KR reasserted control, with hooker Jez Litten extending the lead before Burgess sealed victory with a late interception try. Coach Willie Peters said the performance was "the making of Mikey Lewis," who won the Rob Burrow Award (Man of the Match). The win, following earlier 2025 triumphs in the Challenge Cup and the League Leaders' Shield, made Hull Kingston Rovers only the fifth club in Super League history to complete the domestic treble, and denied Wigan a hoped-for three-peat under coach Matt Peet.
