Match report

South Sydney's 38-16 semi-final win over Canberra at ANZ Stadium was a landmark occasion for the club: it was the Rabbitohs' first finals appearance in over two decades, after finishing third in the regular season. Souths raced to an early 14-0 lead before Canberra hit back to trail 20-10 at halftime, keeping the contest alive. In the second half the Rabbitohs took control and pulled away decisively. Andrew Everingham was the standout individual performer with a double, while Adam Reynolds, Sam Burgess and Dylan Farrell also crossed, and a penalty try was awarded to Greg Inglis after Canberra's Blake Ferguson illegally tackled him without the ball as he moved to collect an offload. Reynolds was reliable off the tee, converting seven of eight attempts. For Canberra, tries to Sandor Earl, Blake Ferguson and Sam Williams, plus two goals from Josh Dugan, were not enough to prevent elimination. The win advanced Souths to a preliminary final, their deepest finals run in over two decades.
