1919 NSWRFL Season

The competition continued through the immediate post-WWI period and the ongoing Spanish flu pandemic with the same eight clubs; available sources do not describe any fixture disruption from the pandemic. Eastern Suburbs finished minor premiers, but Balmain, weakened mid-season by a New Zealand touring commitment, won the Grand Final 13-4 over Eastern Suburbs at the Royal Agricultural Society Ground, a result decided in part by accurate goal-kicking. Glebe and Western Suburbs tied for third on 18 points, each with a 9-0-5 record, though Western Suburbs finished with the healthier points differential (+109 to +75). Newtown and South Sydney occupied the middle of the table, and Annandale and North Sydney tied for the wooden spoon on 3 points, with Annandale managing only a single win from fourteen matches, extending a run of poor results that had begun with the club's first winless season the year before. Balmain's grand-final win capped an era in which the club had also claimed the outright premiership in 1915, 1916 and 1917, making 1919 the fourth title of a five-year span that stands among the strongest sustained runs of the competition's first two decades.
