1913 NSWRFL Season
The same eight clubs (Annandale, Balmain, Eastern Suburbs, Glebe, Newtown, North Sydney, South Sydney, Western Suburbs) competed. As in 1912, no Grand Final was held: Eastern Suburbs finished outright on top of the ladder (24 competition points, three clear of Newtown) and were automatically deemed premiers for a third consecutive year, losing only twice all season. Dally Messenger, one of the code's foundational stars, retired from first-grade around this time. South Sydney and Glebe rounded out the top four, each finishing with winning records, while North Sydney's 5-2-7 season left them mid-table on 12 points. Balmain finished sixth on 9 points, just ahead of Annandale and Western Suburbs, who tied for the bottom two positions with identical 3-0-11 records; Western Suburbs conceded the most points of the two, 251 across the fourteen-round schedule, to finish with the marginally worse points differential. Eastern Suburbs' three-peat, following outright top-of-table finishes in 1912 and 1913, came under the era's rule that automatically crowned the club finishing outright first with no finals series required, a format that remained in place until the introduction of a formal finals series in 1926.
