1911 NSWRFL Season

For the first time, the same eight clubs (Annandale, Balmain, Eastern Suburbs, Glebe, Newtown, North Sydney, South Sydney, Western Suburbs) contested consecutive seasons. Glebe finished minor premiers. Eastern Suburbs and South Sydney tied for second on 20 competition points, forcing a playoff which Eastern Suburbs won 23-10 on 2 September. Eastern Suburbs then defeated Glebe 11-8 in the Grand Final on 16 September at the Agricultural Ground before a crowd of 20,000, with tries from Lees and a Dally Messenger conversion plus field goal, in blustery, wind-affected conditions; two players (one from each side) were sent off in the first half. The Sydney Cricket Ground hosted its first rugby league match this season. Newtown finished a clear fourth on 15 points, well clear of a congested lower half of the table. Annandale, in its second season since replacing the original Newcastle club, improved to fifth with an 11-point return, while North Sydney and Western Suburbs tied for sixth on 9 points each with identical points differentials of -71 and -73 respectively. Balmain endured a difficult campaign and finished with the wooden spoon, winning just three of fourteen matches despite scoring 130 points, more than either of the two sixth-placed clubs managed.
