1923 NSWRFL Season

Nine teams played a sixteen-round premiership. Eastern Suburbs and South Sydney finished tied at the top on 30 competition points after Eastern Suburbs, who had led entering the final round, lost to third-placed Balmain while South Sydney won their last match to draw level. Eastern Suburbs defeated South Sydney 15-12 in the grand final at the Sydney Cricket Ground on 12 September 1923 before roughly 15,000 spectators. Balmain's late-season form carried them to third on 25 points, while Western Suburbs and North Sydney rounded out the top five with winning records. Glebe finished sixth, and Newtown and St. George tied for seventh on 14 points, with University conceding 235 points across the season to finish with the wooden spoon. Eastern Suburbs' grand-final win was the club's fourth premiership overall, following their outright top-of-table titles in 1911, 1912 and 1913, a decade earlier, making them one of the dominant forces of the competition's second decade alongside South Sydney and Balmain, whose own runs of consecutive titles bookended this period on either side.
