1912 NSWRFL Season
The same eight clubs continued. Under the format used from 1912 to 1925, the club finishing outright on top of the ladder after the home-and-away rounds was automatically deemed premiers, with no Grand Final played unless two clubs tied for first. Eastern Suburbs led from Round 11 onward — a decisive 6-4 win over Glebe featuring a Dally Messenger field goal — and won their final three matches to finish outright top on 26 competition points, four clear of Glebe, securing the premiership without any finals fixture. Some secondary summaries describe an 'Eastern Suburbs defeated North Sydney' Grand Final around this time; that was in fact a regular home-and-away round match, not a title decider, and is noted here to flag that apparent source conflation. Western Suburbs finished with the wooden spoon.
Sourcing caveat: A secondary source describes an Eastern Suburbs v North Sydney Grand Final for 1912; this appears to conflate a regular-season round match with the premiership decision. Under the 1912-1925 rules used here, Eastern Suburbs won the premiership by finishing outright top of the ladder, with no finals match required.
