1924 NSWRFL Season

Due to a touring British side and interstate commitments, the 1924 season was shortened to a single round of eight matches among the nine clubs. Balmain and South Sydney both finished with identical 6-1-1 records and 15 competition points, with Balmain ranked first ahead of South Sydney on a superior points differential. Balmain won the grand final 3-0 at the Sydney Cricket Ground on 29 July 1924 before around 15,000 spectators, the only try coming from Latta — the lowest-scoring grand final since the premiership began and the first time a team had been held scoreless in a final; the match was also the first rugby league game broadcast on radio. Glebe, St. George and Western Suburbs tied for third on 10 points, and Eastern Suburbs and North Sydney tied for sixth on 8 points. Newtown and University shared the wooden spoon on 7 points each with identical 2-1-5 records in the shortened eight-match season, a rare instance of two clubs finishing with matching win-draw-loss records at the very bottom of the table.
