Preliminary Final, 1999 NRL finals series: St George Illawarra 24–8 Cronulla-Sutherland, at Stadium Australia, Sydney Olympic Park, NSW on 19 Sep 1999.

Sourcing caveat: Try-scoring minutes were not found for this fixture. Cronulla's goal-kicking is combined from two different kickers (Mitch Healey and Mat Rogers) each with 1 successful goal from 1 attempt; with only 1 try scored, one of these two goals must be the conversion and the other a penalty goal, but the source does not indicate which kicker took which, so it is recorded as a combined prose description rather than asserted as a specific split.

Match report

In front of a 51,827-strong crowd at the brand-new Stadium Australia, Anthony Mundine's hat-trick blew the minor-premier Sharks off the park. This was the Dragons' fourth finals match of the campaign, having played every week since Week 1, and the dominant win sent them into the Grand Final as clear favourites against a Melbourne side many still saw as underdogs.
