Data last verified: 11 August 2026.

Semi-Final, 2004 NRL finals series: North Queensland Cowboys 10–0 Brisbane Broncos, at Dairy Farmers Stadium, Townsville, QLD on 18 Sep 2004.

Sourcing caveat: Josh Hannay's goal tally is recorded by the source as "3/3 goals" without itemising the conversion/penalty-goal split (1 try [4] + 3 successful kicks [6] = 10 exactly) — shown here as conversions for reconciliation purposes; the true mix may include a penalty goal. No try-scoring minute was found. Brisbane's bench included Neville Costigan with a jersey number matching starting hooker Ben Ikin's #9 in the source — likely a data duplication rather than confirmed flexible numbering; recorded as sourced with this caveat rather than corrected by guesswork.

Match report

In one of the most famous results in Cowboys history, North Queensland shut out Brisbane 10-0 at a sold-out Dairy Farmers Stadium to record their first-ever win over the Broncos, en route to their maiden preliminary final. A tense, low-scoring arm-wrestle was settled by a single David Myles try and Josh Hannay's accurate boot. Matt Bowen was outstanding at fullback.
