Hull Kingston Rovers 8-6 Warrington Wolves — 2025 Challenge Cup Final

Wembley Stadium, London · Attendance: 63,278

Data last verified: 11 August 2026.

Sourcing caveat: Hull KR's exact goal-kick breakdown (which of the two scores was a conversion vs. a penalty goal) was not confirmed in sources found. Lineups added from Rugby League Project's match-page team sheets — squad numbers are non-sequential (e.g. Warrington's 21, 33, 35; Hull KR's 16, 18, 20, 21) confirming they are genuine shirt numbers, not a position-order renumbering.

Match report

Played in poor weather, this was a tight, attritional final that Warrington dominated for long periods without turning territory into points, going ahead through a 39th-minute Josh Thewlis try. Hull Kingston Rovers, appearing in their first Wembley final since 1980 and chasing their first major trophy in 45 years, held on and struck in the closing minute: Tyrone May's grubber kick was finished off by Tom Davies for the match-winning try, with Mikey Lewis's kicking sealing an 8-6 win. Despite finishing on the losing side, Warrington's Marc Sneyd was voted Lance Todd Trophy winner for his kicking game and control, becoming jointly the most-decorated individual award winner in the final's history. For Hull KR it ended a 45-year wait for a major trophy and was seen as vindicating the club's recent rebuild under coach Willie Peters. The Challenge Cup, first contested in 1896/97, is rugby league's oldest knockout competition and has been played every year since bar the wartime gaps of 1915/16-1918/19 and 1939/40, with Wembley Stadium its traditional home since 1929.
