2024 NRL Grand Final

Sunday, 6 October 2024 · Accor Stadium, Sydney, NSW

2024 NRL Grand Final result: Penrith Panthers def. Melbourne Storm, 14-6, at Accor Stadium, Sydney, NSW on Sunday, 6 October 2024.

Sourcing caveat: Attendance is reported as 80,156 by Wikipedia and NRL.com; BBC Sport reported 80,552. We've published the figure agreed on by our two primary rugby-league-specific sources pending further verification. Sources also phrase the historical four-peat comparison slightly differently ("since St George 1959" vs. "the mighty St George side of the 50s and 60s") — both refer to the same 1956-1966 St George run, not a factual conflict.

Match context

Penrith Panthers made rugby league history in 2024, defeating minor premiers Melbourne Storm 14-6 to become the first club since St George in 1959 to win four consecutive NRL premierships. In a tense, defence-dominated arm-wrestle at Accor Stadium before 80,156 fans, Melbourne struck first through hooker Harry Grant in the 18th minute, but Penrith hit back when winger Sunia Turuva finished a slick backline movement in the 26th minute. Right on the stroke of halftime, second-rower Liam Martin barged over from close range to put Penrith ahead at the break, a lead the champions never relinquished. The contest turned decisively midway through the second half when a bunker review controversially ruled a Melbourne player held up over the line, denying the Storm a potential match-turning try. Penrith sealed the result soon after, with Cameron Munster later placed on report for an alleged bite. Nathan Cleary and captain Isaah Yeo were immense in a grinding forward battle, while Brian To'o racked up big metres before departing injured late in the contest. It was Martin, however, whose relentless go-forward and try-scoring effort earned him the Clive Churchill Medal. The result gave Penrith a sixth overall premiership and, remarkably, a fourth straight title under coach Ivan Cleary, a modern-era record unmatched by any club in the sport's professional history.
