27 Sep 2024 · AAMI Park, Melbourne, VIC · Attendance: 29,213

Data last verified: 11 August 2026.

Preliminary Final, 2024 NRL finals series: Melbourne Storm 48–18 Sydney Roosters, at AAMI Park, Melbourne, VIC on 27 Sep 2024.

Sourcing caveat: Melbourne's goal-kicking is recorded as Nick Meaney alone (7/8 conversions, 1/1 penalty goal — 8 successful kicks, the maximum possible against 8 tries), reconciling exactly to the 48-point score. An earlier version of this entry additionally credited single conversions to Harry Grant and Tyran Wishart, which — since Meaney's own 8 attempts already account for every try — would have meant more conversion attempts than tries scored; multiple sources checked for a corroborating multi-kicker breakdown were inconsistent with each other and with the try count, so those additional entries were removed rather than left creating an over-count.

Match report

Melbourne Storm crushed Sydney Roosters 48-18 at a sold-out AAMI Park to reach the Grand Final for the first time since 2020. Daniel Tupou opened the scoring for the Roosters, but Storm hit back through Ryan Papenhuyzen and Jahrome Hughes to lead 22-6 at halftime. Hughes completed a hat-trick either side of the break, and although Terrell May and Nat Butcher tries briefly threatened a Roosters comeback midway through the second half, Melbourne pulled away decisively. Cameron Munster sealed the rout with two late tries in the final five minutes, sending the Storm through to face Penrith in the Grand Final.
