Match report
The 2012 Qualifying Final pitted minor premiers Canterbury-Bankstown against Manly-Warringah at ANZ Stadium in the opening week of the newly reintroduced AFL-style top-eight finals system. Manly struck first through fullback Brett Stewart and winger Jorge Taufua, with Daly Cherry-Evans adding a conversion to lead 10-6 at halftime. The Bulldogs, driven by outstanding fullback Ben Barba, who went on to win the 2012 Dally M Medal, dominated the second half, running in further tries to Jonathan Wright and Kris Keating to overhaul Manly's lead. Krisnan Inu landed two of three shots at goal for Canterbury, while Cherry-Evans managed only one of two for Manly. Manly's attack, potent in the first 40 minutes, was shut out completely after the break as the Bulldogs' defence tightened under coach Des Hasler, facing his former club. The 16-10 win sent Canterbury on to a preliminary final and eventually the Grand Final against Melbourne, while Manly's season continued into the second week of finals.
