Match report

Canterbury-Bankstown reached the 2014 Grand Final by grinding out a preliminary final win over Penrith at ANZ Stadium. The Bulldogs, who had finished the regular season in 7th spot before an improbable finals run, controlled the contest for long periods, building a lead through tries to prop James Graham and back-rower Josh Jackson before Dale Finucane added a third late try to push the margin out. Penrith hit back through Matt Moylan and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, with Jamie Soward's boot keeping them within striking distance, but could not complete the comeback. Canterbury's win was notable for its resilience: captain and hooker Michael Ennis was forced off with a foot injury and did not return, requiring Josh Reynolds to shift into hooker, while Trent Hodkinson played through a knee injury carried from the previous week. The victory sent Canterbury into the Grand Final against South Sydney.
