Match report
In the second Preliminary Final of the 2017 NRL finals series, minor premiers Melbourne Storm hosted Brisbane Broncos at AAMI Park on 22 September 2017, with the winner to advance directly to the Grand Final. Melbourne, chasing back-to-back Grand Final appearances after their 2016 loss to Cronulla, produced a dominant defensive display, holding the Broncos scoreless for the full 80 minutes. Josh Addo-Carr opened the scoring in the 39th minute, and Melbourne led at halftime. The Storm pulled away after the break through a Nelson Asofa-Solomona try and a Billy Slater double, with Slater's second try effectively sealing the result late in the match. Cameron Smith and Tohu Harris supplied the goal-kicking in the 30-0 result. The comprehensive win sent Melbourne through to the 2017 NRL Grand Final against North Queensland Cowboys the following week, while Brisbane's season ended in straight-sets fashion after also losing the previous week's semi-final.
