Match report
One week after their shock qualifying-final loss to St George Illawarra, the Broncos produced a stunning response, running in eight tries to demolish Newcastle. Darren Lockyer, Justin Hodges, Karmichael Hunt, Darius Boyd, Brent Tate, David Stagg, Dane Carlaw and Petero Civoniceva all crossed, with Corey Parker landing 8 of 8 attempts. Newcastle's only points came from a consolation Kurt Gidley try — the result propelled Brisbane into a preliminary final against the Bulldogs.
