Match report
The Dragons opened their run to a maiden joint-venture premiership with a clinical, error-free defensive performance that shut Manly out entirely, a rare feat in a first-week final between two top-four sides. St George Illawarra led 10-0 at halftime and controlled field position throughout, denying the Sea Eagles any real attacking platform. Matt Cooper was the standout, crossing twice, while Mark Gasnier and Ben Hornby added the other two tries as the Dragons' spine, built around Jamie Soward's kicking game and a dominant forward effort, wore Manly down. Soward was influential with the boot, converting six of his eight attempts. The win propelled St George Illawarra directly into the preliminary final, which they went on to win against Wests Tigers, and eventually the 2010 Grand Final, where they beat the Sydney Roosters to claim the premiership. For Manly, the loss dropped them into the second week of the finals, where their campaign ended soon after.
