Match report
Coming off a golden-point qualifying-final escape against Wests Tigers the week before, the Sydney Roosters carried momentum into this semi-final against a Penrith side returning to finals football for the first time since 2008. The Roosters took control early and led 12-0 at halftime, built on a disciplined kicking game from Todd Carney and go-forward from the forward pack. Fullback Anthony Minichiello opened the scoring, and centre Sam Perrett's double either side of halftime proved the difference. Halfback Mitchell Pearce and captain Braith Anasta also crossed as the Roosters pulled away in the second half, while Carney was reliable off the tee, landing five of seven attempts. Penrith's response came too late, with tries to prop Adrian Purtell and a young Wade Graham offering little more than consolation. The 34-12 scoreline sent the Roosters through to a preliminary final against minor premiers Gold Coast Titans, a match they went on to win, while Penrith's season ended in straight-sets fashion.
