Match report
In the second Semi Final of the 2017 NRL Finals Series, the Brisbane Broncos hosted the Penrith Panthers at Suncorp Stadium on 15 September 2017 before a crowd of 38,623. Brisbane, coached by Wayne Bennett, controlled a tight, physical arm-wrestle, leading 6-0 at half-time on the back of a Corey Oates try and Jordan Kahu's boot. Penrith, under first-year coach Anthony Griffin and led on-field by teenage halfback Nathan Cleary, fought back through a Reagan Campbell-Gillard try but could not find the second score needed to close the gap. A second-half try to winger James Roberts, further goals from Kahu, and a clutch Kahu field goal sealed the contest for the Broncos, who ran out 13-6 winners. The result eliminated Penrith from the finals series and sent Brisbane through to the Preliminary Final the following week, where they would go on to lose to North Queensland.
